FederalThe Veterans Administration’s San Juan Medical Center congested urban center campus desperately needed upgrades to accommodate the increased parking requirements of staff, visitors, and clients. The $50M renovation, multi-phased project provided 1,425 vehicle parking areas within the structure, and an additional 132 parking spaces in the adjacent surface lot area. Additional enhancements to the Caribbean structure included new concrete piles, reinforced concrete beams and slabs, 6 poured in-place parking decks, 5 traction elevators, a connecting pedestrian bridge to the Medical Center, and two new street entrances – one of which is elevated for easy highway access.
Due to its geographic location, the Parking Structure was designed to withstand both seismic and hurricane force events.
