Federal, HealthWhen the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Center of Excellence Research Program needed to be relocated to accommodate increased staffing and future program growth, NKB was retained to renovate 18,138 SF of the first floor of Building #37. In addition to performing a space analysis, NKB provided construction documents, cost estimates and construction period services for this $2.4M project to create a state-of-the-art and ADA-compliant Research Center that addressed the current and future needs of the Center’s support staff and administration. Space planning allowed for employee growth from 55 to 70 full time employees as well as incorporated audio privacy to minimize noise migration between offices and functional areas.
In addition to the increased staff, NKB’s design accommodated occasional special events such as educational conferences with total attendances of 50 people. Additionally, state-of-the-art access control and panic alarms were added and integrated with existing systems on the Medical Center Campus.
The Center of Excellence provides support for the nationwide Veteran suicide prevention call center services.
