AFRL EXTREME COMPUTING LABORATORY, Rome, NY

Project Overview

NKB provided complete A/E services for the design of a state-of-the-art 7,000 SF extreme computing research and development facility in Building 3 at Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) RRS. The creation of this Extreme Computing Facility (ECF) requires converting an existing computer research laboratory, mechanical/electrical space and storage areas into new lab space.

The ECF is comprised of six individual laboratories, a central collaboration area and a common research area. To accommodate the type of research to be performed in the ECF, the facility’s design meets the highest industry standards and regulations including research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) equipment infrastructure, climate control, electrical power supply, safety, security, and vibration and sound isolation. In addition, due to the nature of experiments being conducted at this facility, NKB’s designs needed to be conducive to creating a clean, stable environment for the scientists.
