U.S. CUSTOMS & BORDER PROTECTION RONALD REAGAN OFFICE BUILDING RENOVATION, Washington, DC
Project Overview
NKB was retained by GSA to provide architectural and engineering design services and construction administration for renovations to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offices at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The project included alterations to existing office suites and building core corridors, totaling approximately 33,000 SF.
The renovation upgraded the existing administrative and operational offices to meet the needs of CBP’s changing workspace demands and more efficiently use the existing space. Along with the functional rearrangement of spaces, the project included cosmetic upgrades of finishes, upgrades to systems of heating/cooling, electrical distribution, meeting space audio/visual capabilities, and life safety equipment.
The renovated space is an open office environment housing several teams with shared spaces for conferencing and employee amenities. Workstations and furniture are configured and specified per CBP design standards and allow for a “hoteling” system of unassigned workspaces, multi-level collaboration arrangements, and flexibility in reconfiguration potential. Additionally, low -panel systems furniture is located along the exterior window wall, with interior enclosed glazed front offices, allowing daylight to permeate the space. The glazed office wall system incorporates translucent printed film at standing eye-level for privacy screening. Incorporation of a white noise system completes an approach that provides an open environment while still allowing for privacy.
