GSA VESTIBULE & LOBBY SECURITY SCREENING UPGRADE, JAMES M. HANLEY FEDERAL BUILDING & COURTHOUSE, Syracuse, NY
Project Overview
NKB performed a study of the building entrance to investigate, identify and resolve issues within the federal building owned areas and leased properties. The design services included redesigning and rehabilitating the entrance lobby area and correcting items that were discovered in the building study phase. The lobby redesign/rehab included repairs to all items determined to be defective in the lobby entrance study, replacement and upgrade of the storefront doors, a new “glass” type awning, replacement of the outside storefront curb, replacement of the recessed foot grills and associated drains, redesign of signage, and evaluations of the HVAC and lighting systems.
The design also included a security screening station that increased the “queuing line space,” coordination of the screening furniture with the x-ray equipment and Magnetometer, and a fully enclosed gun locker. Security equipment included cameras, duress monitors, and other equipment as determined by coordination with U.S. Security Specialists. The design included a single employee entrance using a smart card system.
