Project Overview
NKB with phZ Architects for another project, this one involved design and construction of a new 2,750 SF branch office for the Northern Credit Union. The office is a one-story wood building with a clearstory space above the lobby. Its interior design includes features of the roof structure left exposed to view from below, so the structural design needed to consider the final aesthetic in addition to the normal loading conditions.
With the site being directly adjacent to the embankment for NY Route 37, a portion of the reinforced concrete foundation required NKB’s structural design to retain the soil. The opposite side of the building is constrained by an electrical easement; therefore, the footings were designed with a slight eccentricity to stay clear of the boundary.
In addition to the branch office, the project included a stand-alone canopy over the drive-up ATMs and an 18-foot tall, monumental sign with a two-sided video display. NKB provided a full range of structural engineering services from schematic design through completion of the construction.
