Fire-rated door assemblies are one of the most important life safety features of a building. They provide fire separation, means of egress, and security for the buildings that we occupy every day. What happens if these fire-rated openings don’t function as intended? They won’t do what they are supposed to be doing. Many people don’t realize that the Building Code requires fire-rated door assemblies to be inspected on a routine basis, assuring that the fire-rated door assemblies will function as intended. This course will provide an overview of fire-rated door inspection basics and methodology.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, you should have a basic understanding of the following:

1. An overview of why fire-rated door assembly inspections are necessary.

2. An understanding of which building codes or standards stipulate the need to have fire-rated door assemblies to be inspected on a routine basis.

3. An overview of the things that cause fire-rated door assemblies to be out of compliance.

4. A summary of those items that are to be inspected on fire-rated door assemblies.

5. An overview of the fire-rated door inspection and documentation process.
