ABOUT THIS COURSE

While door hardware may seem like “details” that others can take care of, it is one of the critical elements of a door opening that provides the life safety, security, and access we rely on for protection as required by the Building Code. This course will provide a fundamental overview of door hardware, highlighting the features of door hardware that should be considered in the design, installation, and use of door openings for the built environment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, you should have a basic understanding of the following:

  1. Builders’ hardware utilized for door assemblies used in the built environment.

  2. How door hardware impacts the functionality of door openings.

  3. The terminology used in designing door hardware and door assemblies.

  4. The order hardware sets should be assembled for door openings in a set of construction documents.

  5. The fundamental requirements of a fire door assembly.

  6. The types of hardware that are permitted for use on fire-rated doors.

  7. The design parameters that drive the duty for doors and hardware.
